The AGM of the Association was held at the Royal Overseas League at 4.30pm on March 22nd. Twenty members were present including Patricia Routledge CBE, one of our Presidents, who was to be the Guest Speaker later in the evening. Those present heard that the AESS was increasing in membership and bank balances were good. It had been a most successful year in 2008 and members were told of AESS sponsorship of recitals and the generosity of Miss Routledge in increasing her financial support of the Senior Prize. A highlight of the previous year was the presence of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester at the prize. Subscriptions were held at the same rate and the Chairman and Committee Members were re-elected en bloc, as there had been no new nominations.
At 6.00pm many members and friends assembled to hear the close harmony group from St.Paul’s Girls’s School, performing courtesy of Heidi Pegler. All guests and performers mingled from 6.30-7.00, before dinner. After the meal, Patricia Routledge, introduced by the chairman with a recording of ‘I went to a marvellous party’, spoke with humour and insight about the state of the English Language today.
The Chairman’s Report may be found here.
The AGM and Dinner in 2010 will be at the same venue on Sunday March 21st.
