The Preliminaries for this competition were held at the Birmingham Conservatoire and, on the same day, at The Concert Room, Tagg’s Yard, London on Sunday November 1st 2009.
We would like to thank Judy, our Secretary, and her husband Michael Hildesley for allowing us to use their Concert Room once again this year.
Graham Trew was the Adjudicator for the Birmingham entries and Judy Hildesley kindly joined Marilyn Hill Smith as the London Adjudicators for the Preliminaries.
Eight finalists were chosen, four from each city. 3 were pupils of AESS members, 1 was from the RAM, 1 from the RCM, 2 from the Birmingham Conservatoire and 1 from the RSAMD.
The final took place at St. Paul’s Girls’ School, Brook Green, Hammersmith, London on Sunday November 22nd 2009.
Many thanks to Heidi Pegler who organised the premises and helped Carolyn on the day with all the ‘background arrangements’.
Jonathan Courage and Jane Highfield gave generously of their time to judge our finalists and it proved to be very hard to make a decision. After a lot of deliberating the awards were made thus: 1st Thomas Payne from Surrey, 2nd Milly Forest from the RAM and 3rd Josephine Goddard from Bristol.
Very many thanks to coordinator Carolyn Richards who once again organised the smooth running of the competition with her usual good humour.
