AESS Chairman, Graham Trew gave a masterclass at the place of study of Harriet Eyley, the 2007 winner of the Catherine Lambert Junior Recital Prize. Ten singers from the Birmingham Junior Conservatoire performed including Harriet. Composers chosen included Purcell, Handel, Ireland, Howells, Elgar and Britten. The students all showed that not only could they sing well but that they had considered the poetry of their song, which helped to colour their interpretations. Thanks are due to Alison Stephen, the vocal co-ordinator at Birmingham for her work in organising the afternoon.
