The Final of the Patricia Routledge National English Song Competition – May 20th 2009

The final of the Association of English Singers and Speakers Patricia Routledge National English Song Competition was held before a large audience at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama on Wednesday 20th May. Miss Routledge attended the event and presented the prizes. The AESS is most grateful to Miss Routledge for all her support and especially for increasing the prize fund from this year until 2013 to £5000. The judges for the final were Marilyn Hill Smith, Betty Roe, Stephen Varcoe and Howard Wong. The first prize of £2000 was won by John McMunn from the Royal College of Music. All the other prizewinners were from the Royal Academy of Music and all won £1000 each: Kate Symonds-Joy was the runner up, Marcus Farnsworth was third and Craig White won the accompanist’s prize. The AESS was delighted by the help given by the Guildhall staff and for the unstinting and efficient work of the co-ordinator of the Prize, Stephen Miles.
